This is the second slot in the “Untamed” series from Microgaming following the launch of the Untamed Bengal Tiger Slot– and we would say that this is the better game. Purely on game play, as the design of both is excellent. And if you like your slots highly volatile, you will definitely warm to this game
Untamed Giant Panda Slot – The Details.
Untamed Giant Panda is a 5 reel slot, one of Microgaming’s 243 Ways to Win range- other examples include the blockbusters Thunderstruck II and Immortal Romance. It has all the usual features that we take for granted these days, like wild symbols, free spins, a scatter symbol etc, but also has special bonuses including Collect a Wild, Lucky Nudge and Brilliant Wilds. Plus a special gamble feature where you can adjust how much risk you want to take on the gamble (ie a 50/50, 80/20, or even a 20/80- you adjust the risk scale).
The Untamed Giant Panda big story is the Brilliant Wilds feature, however- more on that later.
The theme is a relaxing, tranquil Chinese bamboo forest (plenty of shoots for the pandas to munch on), and the reels are painted with some pretty lifelike pandas (no surprises there), bamboo, poker symbols and other forest imagery. It’s easy on the eye this game- no garish lights, flashing colours or neon lights on this slot, just high quality graphics.
Wild Symbol
The wild is the Untamed Giant Panda logo, and worksas follows. Firstly as a wild symbol that makes up winning combinations. Secondly as a “megawild” during the Collect a Wild feature, and thirdly in the Brilliant Wilds feature which we mentioned previously.
Scatter Symbol
Untamed Giant Panda has a traditional scatter symbol (the Eye symbol): 2 scatters trigger a 2x win, 3 or more scatters set off the free spins round.
Free Spins
The free spins feature is triggered by three or more scatter symbols, and a random number of free spins are awarded. There is no multiplier on the wins, which is the a slight downside on this game.
We get the impression that they included a free spins game as everyone expects it. The real action is with the wild symbols. Note that there are “Trailing Wilds” in the Free Spins game, leaving wilds on screen as they slide down.
Other Features
The stand out features are the Lucky Nudge feature, which lets you try and nudge in a win, (sets off at random): scatter symbols may just be visible from just above or below the reel edges in the Lucky Nudge feature. You’ll need to try and nudge them on to the screen and trigger the Free Spins. And then there’s the Gamble feature, which lets you gamble on each win, but you can choose your risk level on a sliding scale- a pretty cool feature.
In Collect-A-Wild, each Wild that lands on a reel will add a Wild token to the counter beneath the reel. When you have collected 4 wilds on the counter, the whole reel turns Wild on the next spin and remains Wild for the following 4 spins. Up to 5 reels can go Wild.
Summary
Giant Panda Slot is well worth a look. Part of Microgaming 243 Ways to Win range, it’s full of features and if you like a high volatile slot, this will suit. Just remember, though, that high volatility slot machines will have big swings. The peaks will be Himalayan, but the valleys will be dry. If you stick $20 into a high volatility machine, your money may not last long that , even at micro-bet levels. Unless you are Lucky Jim of course, and hit the big one on the first spin.
