Silver Lion
Silver Lion is Lightning Box’s addition to the crowded world of African wildlife slot games. Could this romping adventure, the Silver Lion slot, be top of the pack in this genre, or would it fall flat? Time to grab your pith helmet and dust off your binoculars, we’re going on safari.
Look and Feel
This game is all about “big game” and catching a glimpse of the magical beast. Whereas the King Kong Fury slot lives up to its name and is high octane action, Silver Lion is a more chilled affair- all in homage to those majestic beasts of the plains!
The background to play did sooth me into a relaxed state with a calming landscape of tall grasses and warm breezes. The reels are set against the savannah with warriors spears making up the frame for the reels.
The graphics of Silver Lion are pretty traditional giving the game an 80s look, but this adds retro charm, with the Silver Lion of the game’s title the star of the game.
The background sounds of play are pretty full-on with animals and birds – there is the occasional, unnerving roar of a silver lion so keep your wits about you.
Lions are big in Slotland (you’ll find them in the Jumanji slot and in Mega Moolah), and in this game he is the star of the show.

Gameplay
Silver Lion is a 4 row, 5 reel and 1024 ways to win slot game- wins start on the left and build to the right. So what looks at first glance like a simple game like much of the Eyecon slots range, has plenty of oomph under the bonnet.
The high value icons of the game are the big beasts from the wilds of the African savannah including the wild silver lion (animated to run at you), shield-toting warriors bedecked in furs, a zebra, a troop of animated meerkats and a hungry looking hippo. The lower value icons are the Ace through 9 of the card deck. All in all, nicely done by Lightning Box.
The Wild is the silhouette of a baobab tree against a dramatic sunset and this icon shows up on reels 2, 3 and 4, and substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter: a giant pink diamond with the word Bonus. i guess we are in South Africa in that case.
This game has some great touches: when you make a win for example, gold coins shower onto the reels.
Bonus Feature
If the sun is shining on you and you land three or more of those pink diamonds then you will activate Silver Lions’ bonus feature with 3 ,4 or 5 bonus icons earning you a welcome 8, 15 or 20 free spins respectively.
Now that might just be worth a quick roar! And there’s more, because if you can land Wilds during this feature, these can double or even triple your wins. If you land several, each one you land can potentially have the same effect- making for some heavy multiplier action. Land three triple multipliers in the feature and you will bag 27 free spins.
The bonus game is a generous one: you just need to land a pair of further Scatters to be awarded 5 additional free spins, and there’s always the possibility of a whole new free bonus round if you land 3 more.
Conclusion
I will admit that I turned the sound down as the soundtrack is pretty full on, but the game’s retro look has a certain charm and when it comes down to basics, the bonus game comes with a very generous multiplier and a whole savannah full of free spins. The mechanics of the game are solid, and I liked the multi-tiered re-trigger feature in the bonus. You only need two more scatters for additional spins.
