Microgaming has pushed the boat out with this graphically gorgeous looking slot. Things start off pretty calmly in the wildlife park with a difference- so far so good, but just wait until the T-Rex Alert kicks in randomly! This game is packed with tonnes of animated clips from the blockbuster Jurassic Park movie just to make sure you’re feeling the thrill of the dino-disaster experience up close and personal.
Jurassic Park Slot – The Full Review.
The Jurassic Park™ Video Slot is inspired by the blockbuster movie franchise which broke box office records around the world with legendary Director Steven Spielberg at the helm and the latest in big screen technology.
Now, to go one better, those kind and business minded souls at Microgaming have put together this hum-dinger of a slot based heavily on the movie to give you the chance to feel the high octane dino-dash action first hand, but fortunately for you, this is possible from the relative safety of the slot reels.
This slot has taken the homage to the movies all the way, even placing clips of the movie themselves which pop up during game play, these add to the game’s entertainment value and make a neat homage to the cracking movies too.
The Jurassic Park slot is another beautifully crafted slot from Microgaming in their high end 243 Ways to Win range (along with classics such as Immortal Romance and Thunderstruck II). Does this guarantee that this is a great game? Usually I’d be tempted to say no, as many of this slots with those top end “uber” graphics fall short on gameplay, but this time Microgaming might just have hit the sweet spot with Jurassic Park.
The licensed theme is top notch (who can beat animated dinosaurs and a T-Rex Alert for an adrenaline burst?) and there are some great features here. You may run through some more calm periods, but when the action kicks it, things hot up pretty quickly.
Look and feel
The background to the dangerously fun action to come is a deceptively quiet leafy jungle glade in the fantastic Jurassic Park itself. What is more disconcerting is that the background moves as if you’re just checking around your surroundings to see what’s about to come out of the jungle and straight at you! This is a step in the direction of immersive gameplay.
The reels are transparent with circular spaces making a home for each individual icon. Atop the reels is the game’s famous logo.
Once you hit the spin button, you quickly come face to face with a scary gang of dinosaurs and then some of the main characters of the movies who are going to make you all that lovely dosh.
While you spin those reels, there’s some lively background music to create an atmosphere of looming threat from the biggest beasts of them all.
Reading the symbols
The highest value icon of play is the maverick palaeontologist Grant (Sam Neil). If you unearth five of him on an active pay line you can expect to earn a tidy 200 coins. Then it’s Ellie – fellow dino specialist (Laura Dern), Hammond (Richard Attenborough) – the park’s owner and visionary, and lastly Malcolm the rock star scientist (Jeff Goldblum).
The lower value icons of the game are, quite wrongly in my view, the six main dinos from the movie including a wicked Velociraptor, a Brachiosaurus, a Triceratops, and a Dilophosaurus. The big value dino is unsurprisingly headed up the ever looming and toothy carnivore king, T-Rex.
The game’s Wild is the movie’s silhouette logo and this icon can usefully become stacked on the reels to make for more winning combos. The Scatter is the amber insect at the centre of Jurassic Park’s origin.
Free Spins
Triggering the free spins feature takes you landing 3 or more of the Scatters – the mosquitoes in amber- this gives you 5 bonuses to pick from (reminds of us of Avalon 2 a bit), but they aren’t all opened up at first- the more you hit the free spins, the more options you will have.
The T-rex bonus offers players “Wild Reels” which comes with 12 free spins, then there’s the Triceratops with “Rolling Reels” (12 free spins again) which are good. There’s also a Velociraptor bonus (Split and Multiplier Wilds), and a Brachiosaurus (Mystery Multipliers). In fact one of the reasons why we love this game is that you can revise all your dinosaurs as you play!
This is another slot that uses “Cinematic Spins” (video clips lifted from the movies). Handily if you’re struggling with a poor internet connection you can even switch on a more basic version in the options- have the egg heads at Microgaming thought of everything?
In the Base Game, the T-Rex Alert Mode can kick off randomly. Don’t run away from this fierce dino as you always have to in these movies! In this action-packed slot game the mega carnivorous T-Rex isn’t here to eat you, instead this fearsome dino can bump up your winnings with an extra 35 Wilds. Roaringly good idea!
Summary
The Jurassic Park™ slot is a great addition to the Microgaming Slot roster with its compelling mix of movie clips, high-end graphics, animation, good gameplay and whole hoard of bonus features. We’d stick this up there with their other top 243 Ways to Win slots: the Playboy Slot, Thunderstruck 2 and Immortal Romance. As long as I can keep those hungry dinos on the reels then I’m up for the next helping of the franchise.
