Microgaming’s Hot as Hades slot is a 3-row, 5-reel, 20 pay-line online slot game with an above-average 96.8% RTP (Return to Player)
Win up to 260x your original bet in the Quest Bonus Round. Or get up to five Free Spins with a 2x multiplier in the Super Mode.
Was this slot when Microgaming (now Games Global) first got their act together on the graphics front?
Quite possibly. With the launch of this brilliant cartoon slot, this design house stepped it up a gear with games like their Tarzan slot machine and Forbidden Throne in the face of all the whizzy games coming out from the likes of NetEnt, Thunderkick and ELK Studios.
Let’s take a look at the game.
Is this Slot Hot like Hades?
We’d say yes. This is a fixed 20-line slot with some lovely animations- our favourite being Hades’ burning hair. That’s not as many lines as the Emoticoins slot, but more than enough to be getting on with.
We like Cerberus the “hound of Hades” as well when he sniffs around and lets out the odd bark. Choose your bet level and press spin. We’re a sucker for Greek mythology!
You’ll see various characters strutting around off-screen after you spin the reels.
This 5 x 3 reel game features Hades, with his flamed up hairstyle and mischievous grin, on a quest to Mount Olympus with his three-headed pal, Cerberus the dog.
There’s a super mode free spins feature, triggered randomly in the base game with 5 free spins including 3 frozen wilds at a 2x multiplier.
Hades is your top paying symbol- five on a pay-line pay 100x your bet. Then there’s Zeus, Neptune, Medusa, the dog and playing card symbols make up the lower payers.
The scatter is the jewelled helmet and the HOT AS HADES logo is the wild symbol. And if that isn’t enough mythology for you, you can always play Goddess of Wisdom or any of our other Age of the Gods slots.
Pros and Cons
-
Superb cartoon graphics and animations.
-
The Crystal Helm side game with its Pick ‘n Win bonus.
-
Random Super Mode in the base game (five bonus spins).
-
No traditional free spins bonus – just the random feature.
Wild Symbol
Let’s cover this off quickly- the Hot as Hades logo is wild and will stand in for other symbols to make up wins. If you win with one of these, your win is doubled.
Scatter
Look out for the shiny helmet or Crystal Helm as this is the scatter.
Five anywhere pays 100x your total bet, four pays 20x. These symbols will trigger the Quest Bonus.
Quest Bonus
In the Quest Bonus, which you trigger with 3, 4 or 5 scatters, you will go searching for the Crystal Helm in a side pick-and-click game.
Hades travels out from the underworld and heads through various levels. You’ll need to click to reveal prizes. If you reveal Cerberus you will win all the goodies on that level, but watch out for the hidden pitfalls as that ends the quest.
If you complete all four levels you will arrive at Zeus’s chamber and you’ll get to play for bigger rewards- the Crystal Helm.
This pick-bonus trail contains possible wins of up to 100,000 coins. You just need to out-think Medusa, Poseidon and Zeus to uncover the Crystal Helm.
Super Mode
When you are in the base game, Super Mode can kick off at random. This mode triggers five free spins. Wins are doubled and you’ll get 3 stuck wilds that are frozen on the reels, boosting your winning chances. All good!
You can trigger both bonuses at once (we’ve seen this a couple of times). if that happens to you, the Quest Bonus kicks off first- don’t worry, you’ll get your free spins after.
Hades delivers from time to time!
Summary: 4/5
Lovely animations and 2 bonuses for the price of one. The game has a pretty traditional design compared to something like Sweet Bonanza from Pragmatic Play, but that’s no bad thing.
It’s a shame you cannot re-trigger the free spins, but with the fixed wilds, you may see some tidy wins here. The Quest Bonus can be quite lucrative too.
