Both of the games are themed on the Arthurian legends (Avalon being the legendary island where King Arthur’s sword Excalibur was forged and where Arthur was taken to recover from his wounds after the Battle of Camlann. It is said to be modern day Glastonbury, in Somerset, according to some legends. But let’s get back to the game!

Avalon Facts

The Avalon slot is an easy to play 5 reel, 3 row game with 20 pay-lines from Games Global (ex Microgaming) that looks and plays like a traditional slot game. The design might look a bit dated compared to some of the newer games we see these days- let’s just call it quirky or classic, shall we!

Intro

You can select pay-lines, coin sizes and coins per line which will please traditionalists, and after that it’s just spin and go. On the mobile version the pay-lines are fixed.

The Lady of the Lake (with the Sword) is the scatter symbol which is the one you want to be looking out for, because 3 of these anywhere on the reels gets you free spins- 12 to be precise and they come with up to a 7x multiplier– so Avalon is no slouch on that front. Another thing to note in the free spins round, is that the Avalon symbol (the Island with the castle on it and the sun streaming in) and the treasure chest symbol are wild and will stand in for anything apart from the scatters to make up wins. In the base game, it’s just the Avalon symbol that acts as a wild.

There is also a gamble feature on this game after a win. Hit the GAMBLE button and choose either a colour or suit to double or quadruple your win respectively. A card is dealt, and you win or lose- simple as that.

You don’t see these kinds of features so much on the newer games, so if you like an additional flutter, you’ll be well catered for.

Symbols

Your top paying symbol is the crown (5 on an activated pay-line pay 800x your line bet). You’ll also see shields, jewels, the Holy Grail and the usual collection of playing card symbols from Ace  to 10.

But it’s the gold and silver ones you really want to land- the Lady, the Treasure Chest and the image of Avalon.

Mobile Version

Microgaming weren’t as fast as some of the other slot games developers at converting their older games to mobile, but they have done a great job with Avalon- it looks even better on a smaller screen IMO. I guess it’s because it’s such a straight forward game and somehow the graphics look sharper.

The only difference is that you cannot adjust coin size and pay-lines. The game is set at 20 pay-lines and you just need to select your total bet. You can play in landscape or mobile- it works very well.

Summary

The Avalon Slot is a cracking little classic that is great for mobile players as well. It’s not that feature rich, but it has got a nice free spins round and you can re-trigger from within the bonus which always gets the thumbs up from us.
